That old guy does not know what he is talking about. Are you serious, are you seriously arguing against paid maternity leave with that argument? In Sweden we pay 30% in taxes, not 50%. And we have 480 days maternity leave. To argue that the US would not be able to afford 6 weeks is complete and utter bullshit. The US is the riches country in the history of the world. She is completely right, it has to do with how you allocate the tax money. It goes to wars and tax cuts for the wealthy. Not Medicare for all, not free college, not free kindergarten and not maternity leave. A company's whole purpose is to make profit, to pay for maternity leave is not in their interest, that's why you need government regulations. Duh

Natalie Beach says:

She should just get a C section!

Kaira Star says:

This is sad for many reasons. I'm single, but I do understand because of my parents did plan for me and my bro. But not all families are fortunate to have a good support like relatives, friends, or day-cares.

1. The scenario is fake but it has a point. I don't understand why people are looking at the scenario as if it were real. Again it has point to it,but no one is listening.

2. There is a HUGE problem in America. Why can't new mothers or mothers in general cannot have maternity leave? Please don't say it's their own fault for not planning or not taking responsibility. Some families DO plan but it's not enough. Sometimes families take up the short end of the stick. It takes a whole lot of money for taking care of a small human being FOR A YEAR [around $12,500 for 1st year and increasing each year] (hospital bills, diapers, clothes, food, bottles, formula, breastfeeding, toys, car seats etc) let alone for the next 3 to 4 years. I think young couples even returning couples need a break. Come on!

3. If we reduce spending for military, social programs, and start reassessing government spending, then maternity leave would not be an issue. We won't have to increase taxes.

4. I thought this was the nation that helps a neighbor or friend in need? Aren't mothers our friends/ neighbors? We need to stop being selfish and help our own (in the US).

Thats what I think though.
