Yummy Oats and Apple Porridge

This wholesome porridge made of oats, apples and milk can be served as a dessert or breakfast after your baby is 6 months. Milk is a good source of calcium, which is extremely important for the development of your baby’s bones and teeth. Oats are high in energy, protein and fibre.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Makes 0.5 cup

Ingredients
3 tbsp quick cooking rolled oats
1/4 cup peeled and finely chopped apple
1 tsp butter
1/2 cup milk (preferably cow’s milk)
1 tbsp grated jaggery (gur)

Method
1. Heat the butter in a broad non-stick pan, add the oats and sauté on a slow flame for 2 minutes or till the oats turn light brown in colour.
2. Add the milk and jaggery, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
3. Add the apple, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 1 more minute.
4. Remove from the flame and keep aside to cool slightly.
5. When cool, blend in a mixer to a smooth purée.
6. Serve lukewarm.

Neha Suri says:

Babies 6 months R not given milk so then how does one give this to the baby

Tarla Dalal says:

from 6 months onwards babies are usually given cows milk and hence this
recipe is a good option for weaning.

Tarla Dalal says:

The apple is peeled and finely chopped and hence need not be boiled before
using in this recipe.

Tarla Dalal says:

In the beginning stages of weaning, ghee is not allowed but as you baby
gets accustomed to a variety of foods in 1 to 2 months, you can introduce
this porridge too. Also cows milk can gradually be added as a part of
weaning.

Tarla Dalal says:

This recipe in no means is a substitute too breast milk. Weaning can be
started anytime after 6 months of age till 1 year and hence the recipe is
for babies 6 months and above. This recipe is a baby food for infants along
with breast feeding. We have used used jaggery and not sugar as a healthier
option. Also it is important to note that this recipe qualifies as a
weaning food only after the baby has accustomed to each of the ingredients
individually in the beginning stages of weaning.
