Why is it important to carry a baby to full term?

Thanks! Share it with your friends!

Dr. Stephen McAvoy, OB/GYN of Aurora West Allis Medical Center discusses why it is important for the health of both mother and baby to carry the pregnancy to full term and what health complications may occur due to preterm delivery.

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month and nearly a half million babies in the United States (1 out of every 8) are born premature each year. A premature delivery is a birth that is at least three weeks before a baby’s due date. It is also known as preterm birth (or less than 37 weeks). Important growth and development occur throughout pregnancy, especially in the final months and weeks.
